Figure 8-2: IIMARC guide for briefing staff (as used by the emergency services).
The IIMARC template outlines a common and understood information picture that provides context to the briefing, the intention of the briefing, how itâs going to happen, the administration arrangements, an assessment of the risk involved and how you plan to maintain communications. You can break down these component parts and give them to individual staff members to brief them, or just use the template to provide an overview of the entire position.
Thinking about tactical responsibilities
When looking at separating responsibilities, define what the term âtactical levelâ means to your business. For example, does it relate to the staff members who are going to be carrying out the actions? Or if you have more than one site, such as a warehouse and office premises, is it the team thatâs going to direct an operational group at that site?
As a starting point, look at the following considerations when setting the tactical responsibilities:
Co-ordinating the tactical level of recovery.
Allocating resources.
Establishing priorities.
Co-ordinating support functions such as ICT, finance, facilities and human resources.
Gathering, collating and disseminating information.
Organising and mobilising suppliers and external sources.
Building Your BC Plan
Armed with the considerations that we discuss in the preceding section, you can set about developing your plan. In this section, we use a three-stage process â preparation, creation and validation â that helps you produce plans consistently and to a good standard, no matter how many plans you have.
Figure 8-3 lays out the process of developing a BC plan in more detail.
